So yesterday, this conversation happened...
BRANDON: "Mom, were you into dinosaurs when you were little?"
ME: "No, not really."
RYAN: "No, she was FRIENDS with them!"
BRANDON: "So, how'd you survive the meteor, mom?"
Little punks.

Brandon's "Quote of the Day"
I may have to start a section solely for Brandon. He comes up with the funniest things! Here is the latest:
HIM: "Mommy, why do you & daddy have to check our Halloween candy?"
ME: "Well, there are some bad people who put bad things in candy. Daddy & I just want to make sure it's safe."
HIM: "Well it's not like I'm taking candy from some random HoBo off the street mom, it's just our neighbors."
ME: "Well true, our neighbors aren't random HoBo's..." (I had to turn my head because I was laughing so hard!)
Seriously, where does he come up with this stuff??

Pictures!
Since I seem to be "technologically challenged" in the slide show arena, I'll just post the pictures old-school style. :)

Happy Fall Y'all!
I'm just going to pretend that I haven't blogged for the past several months. Wait. What was that? You've missed my insightful, thoughtful, meaningful posts? Wow. I had no idea! ;)
Fall is in full swing, and I'm loving EVERY minute of it!
October 11th was my sister's birthday. It worked out that it was only our immediate family that was able to attend. The 5 of us sat at the table & tried to remember the last time it was just the FIVE of us. None of us could remember... which makes me think it's been a LOOOOONG time. Too long! Not that we don't love the rest of our family, but it was so special to have JUST the five of us. We caught up and laughed and talked and laughed some more. GREAT times!
This past weekend, we went to my parents' house. It was HER birthday this time, and we went to take her to dinner! Sorry though, no pictures.
Since the weather is perfect and the trees are exploding with color, we decided it was the perfect opportunity to take some family pictures. And, we succeeded! Wow. Glad that we took them ourselves, otherwise it would've been super-expensive to choose them all from a photographer! While my point-and-shoot camera did a great job, I'm still desperately wanting one of those large DSLR cameras. Photography has always been a secret passion of mine, and I'm constantly looking at things thinking "ooh, this would make a great picture, and ooooh, this would be a great location for a family shot..." Thank goodness for digital cameras... I can only imagine I'd be broke if I had to develop all of this film!! ;) And I'm having technical difficulties getting a slideshow of our actual photo shoot to load. So until I get it figured out, you'll just have to wait with anticipation. Well that, or just go on Facebook, get on my page, and check out the photo album! :)
After we left my parents' house, we headed over to Ohio. We stayed with Mike's oldest brother, Steve, and his family. The kids all have a ball together. We spent the night, then went to Kings Island the next day. Cousins staying up late equal crabby kids on day #2. BUT, we prevailed. Lots of rides ridden, laughs had, and memories to last. :)
After a long weekend (the kids had off from school on Thurs/Fri) of visiting and traveling, we are at home today (Sunday) doing a lot of NOTHING. And let me tell you, it feels pretty darn good.

Scout Camp!
My baby is growing up. Literally. Right in front of my eyes!Ryan just turned 11. ELEVEN!! How is that possible? Wasn't he just learning to walk yesterday?
He left today for a week-long Boy Scout camp... in Ohio. He'll be earning several merit badges, learning new skills, and well, having fun!
I'm not sure who it was harder on this morning. Me, or him. I'm banking on ME. I'm not ready to let my baby jump out of the nest yet!! ;)
I know he'll have a blast. And, he'll probably come back & be taller than me!!
"And from that moment on, I was running..."
Yep, Forest Gump said it best...
After getting addicted to working out, (and, I still can't believe those words actually came out of MY mouth!) Mike & I registered to do the Indy Mini-Marathon this year.
Mr. Treadmill & I logged many miles together doing "intervals"... spurts of walking & running. Mike logged miles with Mrs. Pavement. All in all, we were well-trained.
May 8th, 2010. Race day. We were prepared. Running shorts? Check. Running shirts? Check. Sunglasses? Check. iPod? Check. We walked outside. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Are we dressed warm enough? Oh sure. It'll warm up. (It was in the mid-40's outside.) Surely the sun will come out & warm things up. We got to the race. No sun. And as an added bonus, the wind picked up. Fantastic. Um, Brrrrr??! If anything, the temperature kept us moving when we didn't feel like moving! It was pretty funny though. As with any normal race, people tend to shed clothing along the way. There were stray sweatshirts, shirts, hats, gloves... Mike & I thought hard about picking up something & putting it on along the way! We were freezing!
The Indy Mini-Marathon is the largest Mini-Marathon in the country.
Honestly, it's almost too big. For 13.1 miles, you never really get away from "the crowd", which can be taken two ways. It's inspirational when you're feeling like you can't take one more step (yay! other people to crawl across the finish line with!); and frustrating when you're running & have to dodge your way through a mass of people (get out of my way!!)!

Our goal was to finish in under 3 hours, which we did.
However, Mike & I were a little disappointed with our time. You see, because the weather was cool, we were over-hydrated, and needed to make more "pit stops" than usual. Which then equaled waiting in line (along with everyone ELSE who was over-hydrated)... so about 12 minutes of our time was spent waiting, which got figured into our race time. So, if you subtract that time, we were more on course. Anyway... we finished, and really, that's all that mattered!!
That last quarter mile feels like it lasts F-O-R-E-V-E-R!
Going across the finish line. YES!!! We did it!!!! Mike was checking his phone, where he had a stopwatch set.
Our medals, and proof that we finished!

The vacation to end ALL vacations!
Yep, I'm just a little late posting about this, but... better late than never, right? Apparently, that seems to be my mantra.
Okay, so for Spring Break this year, we headed to Arizona (as seen from a previous post). We relaxed with my parents/grandparents/uncle for a few days, then hit the ground running! Okay, well, maybe not running... but we sure did do a lot of driving and walking!
We left AZ and hit the dusty trail for CALI-FOR-NIA!! We were on a mission to see "The Mouse". Disneyland, here we come! Okay, enough of the puns.
Mike & I have always talked about how generous my parents have been with us, and how they've treated us to many things over the years. We wanted to do the same for them. So, we took them on vacation with us! I swear to you, it was the BEST vacation ever!!!
It had been YEARS since my parents had been to anything Disney-related.
It was so awesome to see them be so excited, and making life-lasting memories with their grandparents. I was amazed as well. For as long as I've been alive, I have NEVER witnessed my dad go on any sort of amusement-park'ish ride. That changed on this trip. For the first time in my life, I saw my dad ride on a roller coaster. And not just one, ALL of the roller coasters... even one with a loop!!! I told my kids that this was a pretty special time!! It was like we were ALL kids again. Disney has a way of making that happen. I don't know if they spike their food/drinks with something or what... ;)
After leaving Disneyland, we headed south. We stopped at Seal Beach for a bit.
Deja vu??
Ugh. Okay, clearly, I stink at keeping this thing current!!
As always, I'm going to try (and TRY, being the key word here) my best to do a better job of keeping this blog up.
Okay, now you have to keep me accountable! Grandma, you need to give me a 'nudge' every now & then, okay? :)

Vacation!
It's finally here. SPRING BREAK!!
On 4/1, we picked the kids up from school & headed to the airport. Destination? Arizona!
The sunshine and warmth are very appreciated. We've gotten to visit with my parents & grandparents.
Mike & I have been able to go on a jog in the mornings, and the boys have had fun going to the "glub house", otherwise known as the "Club House". It's been nice just to R-E-L-A-X! :)

Daily chuckle
I'm going to start adding "chuckle" posts because I find my children humorous. :)
Today, Brandon & I were discussing how tall things were, and relating it to measuring it in length - just as they're doing in his math class.
I said, "Daddy is 6 feet tall." Brandon says, "Mom, that's six $5 foot-longs!"
I'm so glad Subway has taught my child how to measure length.

Instant happiness
New year, new me.
I'm trying to turn over a healthier leaf. Since summer, I've worked very hard to lose some weight. I am now down to a weight that I haven't seen since college! With healthy eating comes exercise... which I would rather poke my eyes out. I'm a self-proclaimed slug.
After feeling some extreme frustration today, I decided the best way to fight through it was to take it out on my friend Mr. Treadmill. You see, Mr. Treadmill & I were "on a break", but decided we should start seeing each other again. Only this time, we agreed we should take things slow.
Frustration + Great Music + 30 minutes of sprints + 15 minutes of upper-body work = GREAT workout!
Never in a million years did I think I'd ever type the above sentence. It left me feeling totally invigorated today. I'm hoping I get the same urge tomorrow because this feeling could become addictive! :)
Now, who's taking bets on if I'll be able to move tomorrow?

December!
What a month!
Here is a run-down of the month that literally seemed to flash before our eyes...
Brandon's 2nd Grade Christmas Program
Brandon had been waiting for this moment since his preschool days. He LIVES for these things. All during the performance, he took bows, mouthed the words "thank you...thank you", and shot the peace sign multiple times. What?? Quite a switch from his older brother who, during each & every one of his school programs, looked as if he was going to vomit at any minute. Brandon's the one holding the microphone, by the way...waiting to say his line. And he's standing next to Hannah, who he claims is just a friend... but on a daily basis comes home talking about her! ;)
Swim Meet
Ryan competed in another swim meet. He is really getting good!! They do the Individual Medley, then each stroke by themselves. His favorite is Freestyle. He kicks some serious butt! He came in 2nd for most of the races (out of 6), and 3rd for one. Not to bad! (sorry, mom has to brag!)

Ryan is the diver on the right.
Beyers Family Christmas
Well, funny story... the family Christmas was to be at our house. However, the afternoon before, I went down with the flu! So, after some calls were made, my brother & wife graciously (thank you again!!) offered up their house for the festivities. Fun was had by all, and I received text messages every so often. So it was sort-of like I was there. However, since I wasn't there, I don't have any pictures to share. Boo!
My mom flew back to Indiana for the holidays, and I couldn't wait to see her!! She had only been gone for a month, but who doesn't miss their mommy? I was really happy that she was staying with us. Our extra bedroom has been dubbed "Grandma's room", and she's okay with that. :)
Christmas Eve
We usually attend the 5:00 service at church. It's brief & very kid-friendly. This year, Mike was asked to be part of the live Nativity Scene during this service. He was a shepherd. The boys were also asked to be part of it as well! So, Mike had a costume & everything. I don't know if you know this, but, he's kind of a big deal... ;) (that's one of our favorite lines from the movie "Anchorman") Anyway, all 3 boys walked down the aisle. The boys took figurines to the altar & came back. Mike stayed up & played his part of the silent shepherd very well. ;) My mom went with us to church, and after church, we all headed to my Aunt Alice's for her annual Christmas Eve dinner.
Aunt Alice's dinners are always wonderful and elegant. It's our chance to get dolled up & enjoy being with family.
Myself, my mom, and my sister.
After we left her house, it was a mad dash to the finish line to get everything ready for Christmas morning...and we were behind. I mean waaaaaaaaaay behind. But, we got it done, thanks to an extra set of elf hands, otherwise known as Grandma. :)
Christmas Morning
We have a standing rule in our house. No matter HOW early you wake up, you cannot go downstairs or into mommy & daddy's room until 7 a.m. Mike poked my arm. I thought I had just fallen asleep. Nope. It was 7:00 a.m., on. the. dot. Did we sleep at all??! (it certainly didn't feel like it.) We had 2 children standing at the end of our bed. And when I say standing, I mean jumping up and down, not able to control themselves. So as tradition would have it, I'm always the first to go downstairs, y'know, to make sure the big guy actually CAME. I get the lights ready, turn the "yule log" tv station on, turn on our fireplace (who doesn't love TWO yule logs?!), and get all cameras ready. I look like a pack mule by the time anyone makes it down the stairs.
The boys, I swear, jumped 4 steps at a time coming down the stairs!
The dog was even left in the dust! Well, the big guy came. And there was lots of loot to look through!
I think both boys were very happy with their findings.

If you look at the pictures above, you'll notice Brandon's gifts are all over the place; whereas Ryan's are together neatly. Just another little reminder that my children couldn't be more opposite if they tried.
Ryan got the big ticket item on his list...an iTouch.
Brandon got his big ticket item...RoboRover.
All was well with the world. ;)
After we open gifts, another tradition is to have cinnamon rolls. So, we had regular & an orange variety this year. Yummmmy!
After breakfast & lounging around for a bit, we got ready & went to my sister's house for her fabulous Christmas Day meal. Did I mention that we go into food detox after all of these wonderful meals?! ;)
We had a great holiday season and hope that you all did as well.
Love,
Jenni
